CISCO Certification: An Overview

CISCO offers a wide range of certifications. There are different levels of these certifications offered by CISCO. There are diverse tracks in networking, such as:

  • Data Center
  • Routing and Switching
  • Collaboration
  • Security
  • Wireless
  • Service Provider
  • Design
  • Cloud
  • Industrial
  • Cyber Ops

Broadly speaking, these are the ten certifications that are offered by CISCO. Each of these tracks has different levels of certifications. You have entry-level certifications, associate-level certifications (we call associate-level certification as CCNA), you have professional-level certification such as CCNP, you have expert level certification such as CCIE, and one of the highest level certifications that is CCNAR.

All these certifications have some kind of validity. You need to renew this certification after some period of time.

  • All entry-level certifications are valid for three years.
  • All associate-level certifications are valid for three years.
  • All professional-level certifications (CCNP) are valid for three years.
  • All expert-level certifications are valid for two years.
  • All architect-level certifications are valid for five years.

DATA CENTER

CCNA Data Center is an associate-level certification of Data Center Domain. There are no prerequisites for CCNA.

CCNP Data Center is a professional-level certification of Data Center Domain. For CCNP you ought to have either CCNA Data Center certification or CCIE certification.

CCIE Data Center is an expert-level certification. You must have a job experience of 7 years for this certification.

ROUTING AND SWITCHING

CCNA Routing and Switching: This is the most preferred certification. There is no formal prerequisite for this certification.

CCNP Routing and Switching: There is a formal prerequisite for this certification. You should either possess a CCNA Routing and Switching or any CCIE certification.

CCIE Routing and Switching: There is no formal prerequisite to attend this certification.

COLLABORATION

CCNA Collaboration: There is no formal prerequisite for this certification. You can directly take this examination, clear it, and get certified.

CCNP Collaboration: To get this certification, you ought to have a valid CISCO Collaboration certification or any CISCO CCIE certification.

CCIE Collaboration: There is no prerequisite for this certification.

SECURITY

CCNA Security: You must have a valid CCENT or valid CCNA Routing and Switching or any CCIE certification.

CCNP Security: You must have CCNA Security or valid CCSSP or any CCIE certification.

CCIE Security: There is no formal prerequisite to attend this certification.
