This article presents the results obtained from the quantitative analysis of the current state of knowledge of project management in the construction sector. Within project management, research has focused on aspects of control and monitoring.
Organization, Planning and Control of Construction
Companies in this sector produce and manage their activity through projects. Its correct management is essential today. Within the field of project management, aspects related to construction are of great importance. Concepts such as the organization, planning and control and monitoring of projects are basic when managing a work. Much more if we consider the economic that has affected the construction sector since 2008. (Construction Companies in Lahore).
The objective of this article is to analyze the current state of knowledge. of aspects related to the control and monitoring of projects within the field of project management in the construction sector (Current State of Knowledge of The CMPM (“Control-Monitoring-Project-Management”) in construction. The article divides into five main sections: introduction, method, results and discussion, discussion on searching in databases and conclusions.
Analysis Of the Current State of Knowledge in Construction
To carry out the analysis of the current state of knowledge of the CMPM in construction, a bibliometric analysis has carries out. Bibliometric analysis consists of applying a series of statistical techniques to scientific literature to study scientific activity a given field.
The research method developed in this article can classifies into three phases main:
- Preliminary approach and search bibliometric
- purification of the results
- Analysis of the results
1) Preliminary Approach and Search Bibliometric
The preliminary approach has consisted of carrying out a search, review and reading of scientific articles, books and theses related to the subject of study, with the aim of obtaining prior knowledge that has allowed a more precise bibliometric search to carries out. To carry out the bibliometric search, a series of initial parameters (databases and search period) and refinement parameters (type of publication and language) have been set:
- Databases To Use in The Search: The Web of Science (WOS) and Scopus databases have chosen due to their importance and diffusion in the field. scientific.
- Search Period: Scopus allows searches since 1960 and WOS allows searches since 1899. For this reason, the most limiting of the two has chosen as the initial search period; therefore, the search carried out between the years 1960 and the end of February 2012.
- Type Of Publication: The research has focused on articles published in scientific journals.
- Language: The language chosen for the search was English, as it is the predominant language in the field. scientific.
The search has carried out sequentially, successively entering keywords in the two search engines. The sequential search provides relevant information when analyzing the current state of knowledge from the general to the. The keywords used have been those extracted from the preliminary approach. (Construction Companies in Lahore).
The basic Boolean operators “AND”, “OR”, and “NOT” have used to link the keywords. In the last phase of the search, the refinement parameters that both databases have applied.
2) Purification Of the Results
The objective of filtering the results is to analyze the number of repeated articles within the same database. Debugging has done using the RefWorks tool. This allows two types of comparison: by exact duplicates (“exact duplicates”) or close duplicates (“close duplicates”). Both criteria have used in this refinement analysis.
The purification procedure has developed in two stages. In the first stage, a study of each of the databases carried out separately, with the aim of observing if duplicate results obtained within the searches of each database. In the second stage, the common articles between Scopus and WOS have compared.
3) Analysis Of the Results
The analysis of the results has focused from the quantitative point of view based on the information provided by the WOS and Scopus databases. The analysis focuses on the study of the evolution of the state of knowledge of the CMPM in construction, analyzing the main authors, the most influential countries, the most outstanding scientific articles and the scientific journals with the greatest contribution and greatest impact according to different indexes (JCR, SJR and SNIP).
This study carried out through a bibliometric search using the Web of Science and Scopus databases. Among other results, the journals with the greatest impact, the most relevant articles, and the most important authors of the field of study analyzed and presented. Based on the results presented here, future lines of research can establish to delve into aspects of control and monitoring within the field of project management in the construction sector.
When analyzing the evolution of scientific articles over time, a great difference observed between the information provided by Scopus and by WOS. According to the information obtained from Scopus, the first article related to the subject.
